Bike the Racetrack: Grand Prix View

The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is opening up its track to the public on Tuesday, April 5, from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm. For the fourth annual “Grand Prix View,” the community is invited to walk, bike, roller skate or even push a stroller along the course where the world’s best IndyCar drivers will scream at over 180 mph the following week. No motorized vehicles allowed; animals are not permitted with the exception of service animals.

“Coming on the heels of Beach Streets Downtown, this free event is another great opportunity to get some exercise and socialize with friends and co-workers,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The added benefit is experiencing the race track from the perspective of some of the pre-eminent race car drivers in the world.”

‘Share Our Streets’ Bicycle Safety
Campaign Rolls Throughout City and Web

A comprehensive safety outreach campaign encouraging motorists and bicyclists to “Share Our Streets” is under way throughout Long Beach and on the Web. The campaign’s critical safety message is that most bicycle-related accidents could be prevented if bicyclists and motorists would follow five safe-riding and driving practices.

“The goal of the Share Our Streets campaign is to educate motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians the rules of the road and encourage everyone to behave safely and predictably,” Mayor Bob Foster said. “It is especially important for bicyclists to be visible when riding with traffic, and for motorists to use extra caution when approaching driveways and making turns at intersections.”
