The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is opening up its track to the public on Tuesday, April 5, from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm. For the fourth annual “Grand Prix View,” the community is invited to walk, bike, roller skate or even push a stroller along the course where the world’s best IndyCar drivers will scream at over 180 mph the following week. No motorized vehicles allowed; animals are not permitted with the exception of service animals.
“Coming on the heels of Beach Streets Downtown, this free event is another great opportunity to get some exercise and socialize with friends and co-workers,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “The added benefit is experiencing the race track from the perspective of some of the pre-eminent race car drivers in the world.”

The City of Long Beach held its 6th Annual Bike Count on October 17th and 20th, 2013. In our quest to become the most bike friendly city in America, Long Beach has been collecting data on cyclist behavior and traffic volumes annually since 2008. With five years of data already collected, Long Beach’s database is one of the longest-running and most consistent in the nation.
The most impressive statistic about Long Beach’s Bike Counts – they have all been conducted by volunteers!
Long Beach not only possesses a growing network of bike routes and shops, but the city is also home to a vibrant, involved, and informed cycling community. The city is asking that community to once again spend a few hours counting cyclists and pedestrians.

Bike Month 2013 activities are in full swing this weekend at the Tour of Long Beach & Bike Festival, the annual bicycle circuit around Long Beach benefiting Miller Children’s Hospital and post-tour party.
Here is this weekend’s line-up:
Tour of Long Beach, beginning at 6:30 a.m., Marina Green Park. More than 3,500 riders are expected to participate in the fourth annual event as cyclists tour one of two long circuits around the City, or participate in Olympian Tony Cruz’s 100-mile Cruz Gran Fondo. A five-mile Family Fun Ride along the beach starts at 8:30. The event supports pediatric cancer research at the Jonathan Jacques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach.
